Whenever I arrive to a new city, all I want to do is walk down the streets, go sightseeing and enjoy every minute.
However, sometimes it’s easy to get lost…
That’s why I wanted to explain you a few tips which will make your visit easier.
Is Plaça Catalunya the city center?
Why do people say toward the mountains, or towards the sea?
Why is la Diagonal so important?

La Sagrada Família

When a monument is visited by more than 3 million people every year, there has to be something.
And la Sagrada Família has it. Something difficult to explain. Magical. Wonderful.
And there are not enough lines to explain it.
Its construction began in 1882, and it’s not finished yet.
Antoni Gaudí created, without knowing it, Barcelona’s most representative image.
Nowadays, people are still working following the architect’s directions.
It has been said that the temple will be finished for Gaudí’s death century.
But don’t wait for it, you can come earlier!

Sleeping in the middle of the city, at Hotel Curious

And when I say in the middle of the city, I really mean it.
Have you ever imagined sleeping at Sant Felip Neri? At the beach? Or at Parc de la Ciutadella?
Well, it’s possible at Hotel Curious, because every room has a photo of Barcelona in one of its walls.
Furthermore, it is located at carrer del Carme, in the very centre of Barcelona.
Near it there are awesome places like Boqueria’s market, les Rambles, Plaça Catalunya, Petrítxol street and many more!

And of course, with a little imagination, you will be able to take your photos for your album at the hotel room!

La Diagonal

Welcome to la Diagonal!
In this long of avenue where you will find shops, bars, restaurants and many more!
La Diagonal divides the city in two parts, and it’s a must-see in your visit.
And don’t worry, because you will find bus stops, underground stations, taxis and many more to get wherever you want…
Or if you want, you can walk all along…
But take some food and drinking, because it is about 11km long!
Anyway, watch the actual avenue, because it is going to be renewed. Take a look here!
So… Which version of la Diagonal do you prefere?

Love at Turó Parc

Love is in the air… Yes! I can feel springtime all around!
That’s why I want to show you Turó Parc, one of the most romantic spots at the city.
You can have a walk around it’s lake, or even read some poems from Lorca, Salvador Espriu or Dylan Thomas.
Did you know that at first the Turó Parc opened as a fairground? Then, its owners sold a part to the city, in order to become a public park, as we know it today.
Apart from the green, there is also a children playground.
Don’t miss it if you come to the city with your children… Or if you feel like Peter Pan!
You won’t regret it!

Colón’s monument

Few stories are as controversial as Christopher Columbus’ (for us, Cristóbal Colón).
First of all, it is not clear where he was born, although Genoa is the most accepted place.
Then some people say he was jew, others, portuguese, also spanish and, of course, catalan.
Well, we’ll leave that history mysteries to the experts.
What is obvious is that Colón’s monument is one of the must-see in the city. Located at the end of Les Rambles, you can take the elevator and have a panoramic view of the city.
And from there, try to guess where is his finger pointing at…

Santa Maria del Mar, a best-seller church

Can you imagine the medieval Barcelona? Its people, its streets, its traditions…
Of course you can!
Ildefonso Falcones published “The cathedral of the sea” in 2006, a novel inspired in the 14th century of the city, and it fastly became a worldwide best-seller. It explains the story of Arnau, born a serf’s son who obtains his freedom and eventually achieves a higher status.
And as the story develops, the construction of Santa Maria del Mar continues. A very beautiful, impressive church which was built thanks to its neighbours that you can visit nowadays.
Next to it, there is El fossar de les moreres, a very special place for all the catalans.
So… Are you prepared to live Barcelona’s medieval history?

Running at Parc del Fòrum

Herzog, de Meuron, Zaera Polo, Domingo and Ferré…
No, that’s not the guest’s list for my next party. I wish!
They are some of the arquitects who have worked at “Parc del Fòrum”.
It’s next to the sea and Besós river, and it holds lots of festivals and concerts, like Summercase, for example.
If you want to know what happens at Fòrum zone, just take a look at Barcelona’s agenda.

And if nothing it’s gonig on, just do like me.
Pick up your trainers… and run!

Boqueria’s Market

Where can you find fresh and delicious food in Barcelona? At Mercat de la Boqueria, of course!

It is a very big and wonderful market next to Les Rambles. I love shopping there, because they have everything I like: fresh fruit, fish, meat, vegetables… Everything is so colourful and tasty! Moreover, if you get tired, you can have delicious juices or even have some “tapas” and make a break in one of the bars in the market.

Now you know La Boqueria… Who said that doing the shopping was hard?

Picornell’s Pool in Barcelona

Sometimes, it can be very hot in Barcelona. That’s why I love going to Picornell’s swimming-pools. They are in Montjuïc, from where you have a fantastic view of Barcelona.
Just before going to work, I swim for a little while and then, I feel fresh and full of energy all day!

It’s perfect!
